My only previous experience with this maker was with the very impressive “Chaillot” from the same appellation and year.
Featuring a saturated opaque dark ruby core, this youthful looking wine throws up an engaging bouquet of creamy old-vine black fruit, cured meats, wood spice, truffles and damp earth. The palate delivers waves of concentration with layer upon layer of texture and full-throttle flavour. Black raspberries, blackberries, blueberries are delivered with a purity and attack not often found in the more typical rustic Cornas thumbprint. There’s a wall of serious firm tannin following the barrage of fruit that suggests patience is in order for this wine to be at its best. The finish is dry, long with serious puckering of the inner linings of the mouth, albeit revisiting the wonderful fruit as a fitting finale. Today, I’d opt for a score of 92, but my gut tells me this will climb as the wine softens and gathers more complexity. I’m extremely impressed with Allemand, once again. 12.5% A/V. Drink now - 2018+.
Cheers,
David
