WTN: The White Viognier 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Fri Aug 28, 2009 1:11 pm

South Eastern Australia
Berton Vineyards

Lovely golden in the glass.

Light citrus rind on the nose.

Thick in the mouth, lemon, apricot, peach, a bitter citrus rind bite, viscous, good clean acidity, honeyed, mouthfilling, a little sweet, floral, peppery.

The bitter bite becomes more intense with time.

Peppery, citrus rind on the finish.

A rich, complex and delicious wine.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian) and a lot of wine for the money.

Sounds tasty, and I love the screw cap.

I've had a few Australian Viogniers in the past, but none that worked for me. I'll look for this one (despite the silly name).

Agree with you on the name. But, as you noted, it's what's in the bottle that counts.
