It was Quails' Gate Okanagan Valley Chardonnay 2007 - Stewart Family Reserve
Light gold coloured, quite a lean style - or so it seemed to start, with nutty leesy influences and a definite salty tang - seemed a bit Chablis-like until the oak kicked in - and the oak became quite dominant on the finish. I think the oak will integrate with time. Right now it would be subdued a little with food - perhaps even quail.
Not bad for a first Canadian chardonnay experience. It came into NZ with a guy who used to live here and is back for a week on holiday.
Cheers,
Sue
