WTN: overachieving Marsannay

by Dale Williams » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:41 pm

Lovely fall day even if it's still summer, dinner was grilled pork chops and king trumpet mushrooms, plus roasted vegetables and salad. Wine was the 2007 Bart "Les Echezots" Marsannay, and was maybe the best Marsannay I ever remember. Lovely sappy cherry fruit, smoke, and earth. Nice from the get-go and it kept getting better through night. Good weight and depth for a Marsannay (really, quite fine period, I'd have been happy if this was a $40 Gevrey). Spice and sandalwood with time. I picked up one more today, my wine budget is busted or I would order more. A-/B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I've also enjoyed some past vintages of Bart's Marsanny Rose, never had a chance to try the red.

Joe, the 08 rose is nice.

Richard, I got at Chambers St Wine in NYC. Bart's 07 Les Champ S. is also good, but not quite as nice for my palate.
