1996 Azienda Agricola Montevertine Riserva Toscana IGT
Chosen to accompany a summery main course panzanella of toasted sour dough bread slices topped with crescents of fresh garden tomatoes, basil, garlic and a few other things. Good choice, as the wine is gently fading and needed the tomatoes to fill in the holes. Light brownish ruby, dried cherry, raisins, a bit of shoe polish and lots of acidity. Still hints at past glory, though, in spite of the decay.

One of the last tough years in that region (save 2002). Glad to see it held up just enough.

Earlier bottles were better, of course.

I had this a couple of years ago and quite enjoyed it. Montevertine is certainly at top of my list of Tuscan producers, thanks for update
