WTN: 2005 Chateau La Prade (Cotes des Francs)

by David M. Bueker » Mon Sep 07, 2009 9:43 am

I had actually intended to open my last bottle of the 2000, but got the corkscrew into this instead. That'll teach me to not grab a bottle without turning on the light in the cellar...

In any event, this was a great partner to a medium rare ribeye steak. Excellent grip, lots of fruit and a very light touch of oak all come together in a complete package that did not cost all that much. This is a very good choice for drinking over the next several years.

Glad it worked out. I've opened the wrong vintage several times (and also wrong vineyard, pradikat, etc)

I generally have a steak once a week. Having more lately, as the wild salmon has gone away for the season. Plus I have ot get ready for Alberta, where even the fish comes from cows.

From what I’ve tasted from Côtes de Francs in recent years, La Prade was undoubtedly the most stylish wine, and BTW, one of the most interesting wines of all the satellite appellations... Thanks for the nice note, David!
