WTN: Jadot with too long a name to fit into the title space

by David M. Bueker » Tue Sep 08, 2009 7:54 pm

2004 Louis Jadot Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux Clos de la Croix de Pierre
From half bottle (did I mention how much I love half bottles...you see I am going out for dinner tomorrow, and since I get up at 5 AM a full bottle is a bit much at dinner, so a half of something nice like this, at a good price, is valuable to me, but for some reason the halves come and go, so I never get to see what happens year after year with a nice little wine like this, that if it came in 375s every year (at least where I shop) I would buy it just for fun if nothing else, but you know how that goes...oops I was going to write a tasting note...) this is a touch closed down these days, but it's still a light, elegant, red-fruited Pinot Noir with little or no "green streak" to speak of. Maybe, just maybe it's starting to open up with air, but I think my remaining halves will sit a while, and I might even go get more since the shop where I bought it in 2006 still has some (oh that might explain why they never bought it again, but don't they realize that 2004 Burgundy does not sell, oh they must, but that's a run-on Faulknerian rant for another day).

Great run-ons. :D

As for the title, just point that out to the people who crib that a German wine name is too long! Nice to hear that it showed well (although given that it's Jadot, not much of a shock - I've really liked all the wines I've had from him, and his higher-end stuff has not yet failed to blow me away).

And re. 04s, at least there's something out there representing value because retailers can't sell it. I've seen higher end bottlings from very good producers at far more reasonable prices for that vintage - half of 05 or 02 at times - so glad to have something out there to buy.

My favorite notes are like this, the "human interest" emerging parenthetically.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.

Half bottles are for women. And I love that part of our species.

Nice note.

Is this a monopole?

Yes, I think it is a monopole. I will re-check the bottle to be sure though.

Since it's such an attractive wine, it must be a magnetic monopole.

Get your tasting note published in Nature and you may be in line for a Nobel Prize.

Looking into it further, I believe the Clos is wholly owned by Jadot, but as a sub-section of a larger site it is not technically a monopole.

thanks for note. One of the things I like about Jadot is fair number of halves, I bought a lot of Beaune 1ers in 02 and 05, and Gevrey village in 01. I'd buy more halves if better selection available.

Of course there's always 2002 Emrich-Schonleber Monzinger Fruhlingspatzchen Riesling Spatlese Halbtrocken.

I picked up a bottle today at a somewhat-nearby retailer's (along with a couple of other things) based on your recommendation.

Opened (and finished) it already, and it was fantastic. Light, elegant and red-fruited as per your description - I need to get more!
