2006 Château Pontet-Canet (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac)
Meaty fruit, dark tar, and lots of nice herbs and menthol. Tightly wound fine tannins and a long dry acidic finish. Black wood and suave oak. Broad, dense. Needs many years. Has a lot going on. A rich, smooth fruit core with a dark undertone can be barely detected hiding underneath it all. This will be a good one.
I tasted this a few months ago & thought it was a very fine Bordeaux and instantly recognizable as such. I also agree that it will reward patience. For the naysayers who think Pontet Canet has gone over to the dark (and concentrated side) I say taste the wine again. No it's not Pontet Canet from the '80s, it's a whole lot better.
