2005 Francis Ford Coppola Director's Cut Cabernet Sauvignon - I bought 2 bottles of this over a year ago at a tasting. I felt the wine needed a bit more time so I put them away. I opened one tonight to go with grilled sirloin. It was a good choice:
An initial whiff of oak has me concerned, but it is replaced with cassis and other dark fruit. In the mouth the oak is well integrated and the tannins, while present, are fine-grained. Leather, cherries and spice dance together, giving way to tart berries and a lingering finish. No heat, despite the 14.5 abv. The only downside was that my daughter liked it too, so I had to share. (Note to self: buy some more, it's worth the quarter c-note).
