WTN: Weekend Whites

2007 Claude Michot "Les Berthiers" Pouilly-Fume. My first Sauvignon Blanc from this commune, and it was lovely. Very citrusy, with a pronounced chalky minerality that was quite delicious, especially with herb-crusted white cheese (dried Jack, I believe). Very nice wine.

2007 Red Tail New York State Dry Riesling. (Seneca Lake) My very first New York State wine! Richer than at the wine shop tasting, this had a lot of flavor. My uneducated palate probably does not understand the nuances of Riesling very well, but I thought this wine had rich fruit, bone dry with good acidity, and already the beginnings of petrol??? flavors. Very nice...and $16!

We also had a delicious 2006 Fleurie whose name I did not write down and was omitted from my spreadsheet. Bright red cranberry fruit...delicious. A friend complained about the universal "funkyness" of the French wines I bring, and my response was that is why I love them so much!

I would imagine that your P-F was a nice alternative to Sancerre? Price is usually not quite so high.

Not sure my paalate is sophisticated or experienced enough to tell the difference, Bob. :?
The wine was mid 20s, which is about what the same shop (Back Room Wines in Napa) sells many of their Sancerres for as well. (Not Daggenau, of course. That is no longer in the budget  )
