WTNs: 06 Tissot Pousard and 05 Graillot Crozes

by Oswaldo Costa » Tue Sep 29, 2009 5:51 am

2006 Domaine Andre et Mireille Tissot (Stephane Tissot) Arbois Poulsard V.V. 12.5%
Bright sour cherry aromas (Marcia got strawberry). Acidity is zingy and delicious, with barely perceptible secondary fermentation fizz (this was opened and poured immediately). High toned cherry and sousbois flavors, light body but satisfyingly so, without any sense of weight deficiency. Very well resolved. Perfect, in its simple way.

The Poulsard went by so fast that we were left wanting. In a highly unusual move, we opened more wine, with wanton disregard for good measure. By confessing, I hope to make it allright.

2005 Alain Graillot Crozes Hermitage 13.0%
Cherry and rubber on the nose, followed by mild vanilla and cloves and, as it warmed, a strong menthol note (Marcia called it eucalyptus). Good acidity, lively tannins, mildly mouth puckering. Good acid/sweet balance. Very nice wine, could use some extra time in bottle.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.

This is one of those notes where you have to read the whole thing. I was getting the sense that this wasn't all that great, but then you go on to say a very nice wine, so it sounds like alls-well that ends-well. I have a couple, but they will wait. Have you tried the Graillot bottling from 05?

Yes, of course you're right, Dale. Never post and work at the same time...
especially when you've got Cornas on the brain!
