WTN: 2005 Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon

by Oswaldo Costa » Thu Oct 01, 2009 6:54 am

2005 Catena Zapata "Catena Alta" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza 13.5%
Ripe plum and vanillin aromas. Tannic, fairly hot for 13.5%, but with surprisingly keen acidity, balanced by sweet fruit. Tastes like high quality grapes not excessively supermatured. Silky and elegant, but relatively one dimensional. Makes me think Eurotrash, double-breasted blazers and scarfs, aristocratic, charming and shallow. But perhaps I deride for increasingly ideological reasons.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.

Reading your tasting notes, whether or not one knows or wishes to know a wine, always rewards. This one better than most: Eurotrash indeed!
