Notes from a tasting of Dr. Loosen wines.

Dr. Loosen Bernkasteller Lay Riesling Kabinett 2007 - Light and fresh with just a bit of spritz and lots of acidity. Lime and green apple. There seems to be a little bitterness in the slightly watery finish. Good and real easy to drink.

Dr. Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese 2007 - Very high acidity. Quite sweet with a very long finish. Apple and grape skins texture. The flavors are much like the Kabinett but the sweetness is taken up a notch. Well-balanced and very good.

Dr. Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Auslese 2006 - Good complexity in this one. Honeyed, rich and oily texture. Candied orange peel. Spice-drop like flavor in the finish. Great length. Although honeyed, the acidity does a good job of keeping this wine fresh. Excellent.

Dr. Loosen Riesling Beerenauslese 2006 - Screwcap. Attractive green/gold color. Lovely nose. There's a honey note from the attack until the finish. Dried and candied fruits. Orange marmalade, pineapple, apricot. Very long finish. Excellent. I've had this wine several times both from a screwcap and a cork bottle. The screwcap bottles seem consistently fresher than those under cork.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
