WTN: While my Guiraud gently sleeps

2005 Château Guiraud
A conversation on another wine board led me to open a half bottle of this Sauternes. It certainly has a lot of richness, and there's plenty of ripe, honeyed fruit on the palate, bu the nose is rather closed (much like a 2005 Coutet from Thursday), and it seems rather thick instead of lively right now. There's plenty there, but for my taste the fruit needs to calm down a bit to reveal a little more acid, and time is definitely needed for the aromatics to re-emerge.

I had an '01 Sauternes last night from another producer. I love this stuff! It is so good in its youth and then it morphs into something even better!

The '01s are my absolute favorite Sauternes. I kick myself for not buying a solid case (or more) of La Tour Blanche when it first came out.

David, I picked up a case of these when they first hit our shores. I will be honest and say I have had real problems keeping my hands off them so far. Thankfully I re-did the cellar recently and hide them under a dozen or so cases. Now that should slow me down a little.
