WTN: Thursday Night Zin

2006 Chateau Montelena Zinfandel Estate

Nose of cherries, raspberries, pepper and a touch of vanilla. this nose evolved nicely throughout the night and by the end I was getting this baked blueberry/blackberry pie scent as it remained out. Jammy and full mouthfeel, more berries and vanilla, the oak is evident here but not overpowering and there is a nice medium finish to the wine. Very enjoyable and a great compliment to the filets on the grill.

I still love the Montelena Zin despite the fact that not much else from the grape excites me anymore (Ridge and Dashe notwithstanding).

funnily, I like Montelena as an estate, but not sure I've ever had (or seen) the Zin. Maybe I should rectify!

I enjoy the Novy bottlings of Zin as good qprs and bbq wines. For a step up, I have had very nice bottles of zin from Outpost, they are about 2x or 3x the price of the Novy ones but worth it imo.
