My apologies if this subject has already been discussed - I did search but didn't find what I was looking for...
If a cellar or basement has a "musty" smell, as many do, will this have an effect on wine being stored there?

It may. Probably won't affect the wine directly, but the smell can get into the labelling so that people can smell it if the bottle is taken to the table.
I keep baking soda in a large container in my cellars, and mix it up from time to time to absorb odors.

Just don't do anything to take the humidity out of the air, such as hanging those absorbant bags around. The wine needs the humidity.

Bob, cellars? Is that a typo or do you indeed have multiple caverns under your house?
