Attending the German Wine Auctions?

by Howard Marc Spector » Sun Jun 20, 2010 9:47 am

Does one need tickets to attend the wine auctions in Germany this fall?

Does one need to have a license (or some sort of special permission) to bid on the wines?

Howard,

I'm not sure about tickets these days, but I do remember in 2003 we just walked in, purchased a ticket & sat down.

As for bidding - you have to work through an authorized bidder. Private individuals cannot make bids.

They are usually merchants who are buying entire lots (versus people like us who want a few bottles) & sit at the front of the tables. Back when he was alive, Hans Selbach was a bidder & that's how I purchased some wine - working through him.
