Vega Sicilia and Ch. Lafite in Rioja joint venture

by Warren Edwardes » Thu Jun 24, 2010 9:25 am

I spotted in El Confidencial a report on a joint venture between Château Lafite and Vega Sicilia to create a "superwine".

Initially they are going to rent a bodega in La Rioja Alavesa and by 2012 they will have constructed a new bodega in La Rioja Alta.

The 110 hectares of vineyards will be exclusively in La Rioja Alta or Rioja Alavesa.

The volume will depend upon the quality but it is estimated that more than 300,000 bottles per vintage will be produced.

Not Chateau Lafitte, one of its minority owners. Ya can't trust the press.

Yes you are right, Oswaldo.

Looks like it is not Chateau Lafite itself involved but Benjamin de Rothschild, one of the shareholders of Château Lafite - the new venture will be “Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia”
