WTN: PoggioVerrano Dromos '04...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Jul 06, 2010 10:57 am

This wine was given me by a friend to try:
1. PoggioVerrano Dromos IGT MaremmaToscano (14%; Sangiovese/Alicante w/ CabSauc/CabFranc/Merlot; www.PoggioVerrano.It) 2004: Very dark/black color; fairly intense black curranty/black cherry/licorice mostly Cab some charred/oak/toasty slight dusty/earthy nose; rather hard/tannic/austere/astringent fairly charred/oak very strong black cherry/blackcurranty/Sangio/licorice/pungent flavor; long quite hard/tanic/astringent licorice/pungent/earthy/dusty black cherry/blackcurranty rather charred/toasty/Fr,oak finish; a hard/tannic/severe SuperTuscan that needs 5-20 yrs of age.
About $60.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. This is a classic SuperTuscan from FrancescoBolla and his non-DOC estate in the Maremma. Made from an unspecified blend of Sangio/Alicante and Bdx varieties. It spoke mostly of charred oak and CabernetSauvignon, w/ only hints of black cherry/Sangio character. Nothing particularly Tuscan about it, it could have come from Italy, Bordeaux, or the NapaVlly.
It's pretty tough drinking right now and its future lies ahead. Not sure where it will go but I expect it'll be a great wine someday down the road. Not sure what the Parker score for this wine is but I would guess in the low-90's.
Not the kind of wine I would seek out, but it was gifted to me by a friend who asked my opinion of it.

Don't know for sure, Clinton, but that would certainly be my guess.
There promo liturature refers to the use of aucthonous (or however the heck you spell that word), so doubt it would be
AlicanteBouschet.
