WTN: 2000 Ch. Fontenil

We had this tonight with london broil and it was quite good and integrated with semi-smooth tannins. There was however no secondary complexity and just exuded sour cherries. I'd wait another 5 years before trying another as the slight astringency on the finish and lack of complexity shows it to be still a bit young.

It used to be that at 10 years of age a Fronsac was ready to drink (or already dead). How times have changed!

Well, when the owner is Michel Rolland, that is not really very surprising...

Not sure that Fontenil is really typical of its appellation.

Perhaps, but I have never found Fontenil to be glossy/rich/confected or any other of the many sins Rolland is accused of.
