I bought a single bottle of the 1999 Goldwater Roseland Chardonnay from the discount bin on a whim. I recalled it being a high quality New Zealand producer but found not much in a search. For $17 I'm not out much and maybe I have a real winner. Any opinions about this wine out there?
Goldwater was one of the first wineries on Waiheke Island, near the city of Auckland, but this region and winery are best known for their reds (Merlot-based blends, usually). Their SB can be very good too. But I'd definitely drink up the chardonnay ASAP.
Goldwater is the producer. Rosewater is the vineyard. I wouldn't hold out much hope for this wine, now coming 11 3/4 years old. If anything, the Goldwater Zell, from the Zell Vineyard on Waiheke Island, would have had more aging potential. Anyway, report back after you have tasted it. Cheers, Sue
