WTN: Two Old Calif TBA's...(short/boring)

Tried these over the Holidays:
1. Jekel LateHrvst JohannisbergRiesling MontereyCnty (EB; SaH: 29%; BotrytisAffected; 10.1%; Hrvstd: Dec.1; RS: 10.0%) 1979: Rather dark brown somewhat murky color; intense peachy/apricotty/botrytis bit raisened some complex/German BA-like nose; off-dry intense botrytis/peachy/apricotty soft some complex very attractive flavor; very long/lingering intense botrytis/peachy/apricotty some complex finish; rather soft on the palate & loads of botrytis but not as evolved as I would expect. Should go on for yrs but probably won't evolve much.

Navarro WhiteRiesling AndersonVlly/Mendocino (ClusterSlctd; 9.7%; RS: 25.4%; SaH: 41.9%) 1986: Very dark brown color; intense botrytis/apricotty/peachy/fruit cocktail rather complex slight earthy nose; tart intense botrytis/apricotty/peachy very sweet very complex some German/TBA-like beautiful flavor; very long/lingering tart very sweet very complex intense botrytis/peachy/apricotty slight earthy beautiful finish; terrific Calif TBA that should go another 10-20 yrs.

A wee BP:
1. Both wines were typical of old Calif BA/TBA's w/ lots of browning; both w/ huge botrytis. The Navarro stood out much better because it had a lot of acidity and had developed more complexity. The Jekel just lacked the pizzazz on the palate the Navarro had.

Is Navarro still considered a quality winery for riesling? I have had some recently and I can't say it was all that memorable. That said, I really wasn't paying attention.

Not sure about their Rieslings. I hear about Navarro more for their Gewurztraminer.

Navarro is recognized for making one of the best Dry Calif Rieslings and GWT. I find them pleasant enough...but just that. There are better ones out there, both Calif
and elsewhere. But their BA/TBA laye hrvst Rieslings and GWTs are some of the best in Calif I think. Still.

I've had a few Navarro Rieslings in the last year or so and nothing impressed me. Really disliked the 2007 Late Harvest Riesling when I had it last month, found it flabby, monotonic and completely boring. I'll stick to Germany for sweeter Rieslings.
