Monday I had blackeyed peas in the slow cooker and a salad, threw some kombu in a pot and got some miso soup going. Wine was the 2008 Celebration (Evening Land) Beaujolais Villages. Light and fresh, red fruit with underbrush and earth. Tart and tasty. B
Tuesday was chicken breast and pesto from the freezer with pasta, I opened the 2007 Bavard "Les Champs Perrier" Bourgogne Blanc. Good acids, but a bit muted and musty. With air it became apparent this was (lightly) corked. It was a bit late to run downstairs for another white, so seltzer had to suffice with dinner. But I felt like a glass as I did some computer work after dinner, and started to pour some leftover Evening Land. But a half of the 2005 Lopez de Heredia "Vina Cubillo" Rioja called to me. A little tight, and maybe a little disjointed at first, but comes together nicely. Red fruits, coffee, aniseed. Mid-bodied, keeps evolving. A B for now, we'll see how remainder does tomorrow evening.
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
