2005 J & HA Strub Niersteiner Brückchen Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Rheinhessen)
After months of sensory deprivation, this is the first time I feel like I am adequately getting a wine. The nose is still more than a little muted for me, but there is a clear citrus element, as well as peachy overtones. On the palate it is rich for a kabinett. It actually seems fleshier than it has over the last several years. But along with that there is a brightness of acidity and a mineral tang to the finish. The aromas come through to me as a retro nasal wave - it's a bit muddled, but I think that's almost sensory shock. Even if I am not getting the full effect on the nose (my favorite aspect of drinking wine), it is heavenly to be enjoying my favorite beverage!
More recovery to come (I hope!), but there is a light at the end of that tunnel.
