wtn: 1999 Donjon

Probably my last bottle of this CnP and consumed with wild rabbit. With a deep ruby color and browning at the edges, this wine is at or near peak with lots of spicey sour cherry and a weird prickly smooth acidity that I associate more with young German Riesling but liked a lot. I tried to get my wife to expound further (her palate far exceedes mine) but she could not verbalize. I'd guess that 6-8 more years would be just fine for this wine, maybe a lot more.

Prickly and smooth in the same acidity? Sounds bizarre, but I'm sure it was maturing into a nice stage.

Hi Rahsaan, I say probably because this came from my second (really good) cellar 50 miles away. I only visit it 2-3 times a year and it indeed is in a state of disorganization (wooden cases stacked on top of each other). I am sometimes very pleasantly surprised to find what I still have there! As far as the acidity goes, prickly and smooth may not seem to go together but I was trying to relate a lack of tartness or astringency.

My reading on this was WAY longer ageing - I haven't touched mine yet.

I have to wonder about your bottle given the odd acid thing.

Maybe I'll make a mental note to pull a bottle of this and the 98 to try together this summer.
