I just caught an interview with Gary Vaynerchuk (promoting his new book, "The Thank You Economy") on All Things Considered. Two things about the interview struck me. The first was how insightful and thoughtful he sounded and the second was how calmly he spoke. It's interesting to contrast that persona with the one in evidence on WineLibraryTV.

Thoughtful and interesting interview.. but I thought he was pretty much his hyper self, maybe down a notch or two.. He has some clever ideas, no doubt,

I also thought it was a pretty interesting interview. He struck me as a very smart guy - I didn't realize how early he took the Wine Library thing into the e-world.

I did hear part of the NPR interview. The guy seems to be quite knowledgeable, but his act on Wine Library TV got old in a big hurry.

I really like a lot of what Gary V. has to say, but I often have a hard time taking the way he says it. That said the information is good and he has definitely pointed me in the direction of some tasty wine. Given the amount of snob influenced wine patter out there it's nice to have something different but still grounded in some sort of experience/knowledge/passion.

I think it is important to remember that Gary is not attempting to appeal to sophisicated wine lovers but is speaking to a younger crowd, perhaps those of his own generation and even younger and he is drawing that crowd very nicely into wine. His use of language and his mannerisms are most certainly directed to a younger group of people just getting into wine.

I get that. But it still irks me when he mangles the names of foreign wines. If you want to make wine approachable to people who don't speak foreign languages then you could pronounce them with an American accent but for godsakes at least keep the letters in the right order!
