Solid, high-quality natural cork closure; 14% alc./vol. $13.95 at Vintages. 70% Petit Verdot; 30% Bobal.A garnet-accented ruby core; medium translucency. Elegant, taut nose of spice-tinged red fruits. Very subtle oak spice from 4 months' ageing in new oak (followed by 8 months in older wood). Pleasantly firm, grippy structure right from the fore-palate all the way across the mid-palate. Well balanced, dry, structured wine. Extremely pleasant for its distinct lack of sweetness, softness, and perfumey modern nonsense.
This is a quality red with an unassuming bouquet but serious structure and mettle. Truly, this is easily one of the best wines I have had in the past ten years at this price point.
I don't ever recall having a varietal Petit Verdot from Spain, much less a blend of said grape and Bobal - an entirely new-to-me variety. This is just the kind of eclectic blend that I love to find, and the varietal composition is a marriage that works wonders.
