We had white Graves to start the night but I didn't catch the label.
1999 Patrick & Christophe Bonnefond Côte-Rôtie
My third of four bottles purchased on release ($30). This wine is finally drinking in its window. Classic CR perfume with olives, bloody meats, a touch of iodine and subtle wet horse saddle. Blue fruited with a silky palate presence, it’s delicious and all enjoyed it as it quickly disappeared. Tannins have softened, yet acidity is present providing some grippiness. Paired with leg of lamb and Flannery hangar steak & Mediterranean pasta salad.
1990 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
Apparently, Bobo rated this 79, so I'm told. While I don't think it's a blockbuster, it is a nice wine and easily better than his note indicates. I should note that Bordeaux is not really my thing, but I do enjoy it occasionally. Pretty nose of tobacco, herbs, plums and graphite. There is a touch of green/steminess, but I find this enhances the flavors rather than deters. The palate is rich with some tannins left to resolve. It seems a bit more polished than I prefer, nevertheless, I'd happily drink this wine again. Paired with Flannery hangar steak and Mediterranean pasta salad.
1998 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Rabajà
We had some cheeses: Manchego, Humbolt fog, Saint Agur and Morbier. Con pulled this one and it was an absolute stunner! The nose is just gorgously aromatic. One of those mezmerizing moments. The palate is drinking well though young and brooding. It works well with the harder cheeses. If I owned this wine, I would hold it for another 5 yrs minimum. It can only turn magical with time in the bottle.
