WTN: Schrock, not much awe.

Ried Vogelsang by Heidi Schrock, a juicy, spicy white composed of Welschriesling, Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), and Gelber Muskateller.

It was aromatic and tasty, but not all that balanced. Had I not been told it was a blend of the three varieties I would have assumed outright it was the musky Muskateller; the Pinot Blanc didn’t assert itself much and the Welschriesling not at all. Hard to divine what Schrock intended with this wine---one assumes it might be the different notes of the three wines in the harmony of a bird’s sweet trill, but it came across more as a repetitive chirp without variation.

The Vogelsang was...okay, pleasant in a muddled and mundane sort of way...but I expect more of Schrock than mediocre. Mediocre I can get anywhere.

Thank you for the note. Although I have enjoyed several of Heidi's wines before, I have not had the Vogelsang in some time, but recall liking it in the past.

There are certainly some other field blends out there that do not necessarily bring out each individual variety (Deiss, for example).

I've had a few of the Schrock wines over the years and generally found them somewhat severe and lacking in interest. Couldn't figure out how they obtained a good reputation, but just chalked it up to a small sample size.
