WTN: 1996 Cafaro Napa Valley Cabernet

by Brian K Miller » Sun Dec 30, 2012 3:19 pm

This was simply a beautiful mature Napa Cabernet. The som mentioned he was worried about it because the color showed significant browning (I certainly couldn't tell. We could barely read the menus. Why is dim lighting such a good thing in a restaurant????) but it was stunning. Dark cassis fruit with a fine green edge of freshness. Incredibly silky mouthfeel and tannic structure. As the wine was aired in the decanter, it did not show any signs of falling apart. Instead, it smoothed out even further and showed flavors of earth and leather. Very deep and rich! Balanced alcohol as well...under 14%!

Amazing wine. Better even than the 1997, in my opnion. What a treat!
