Pressing Pinot Gris - video

by Howie Hart » Mon Sep 30, 2013 12:25 pm

My friend's winery made this short video of them pressing Pinot Gris using a cider press. The 5 boxes that I bought are probably the ones on the scale, which I just finished pressing.

Rice hulls, which are commonly used as a pressing aid.

Where were the yellow jackets? They love pressing parties.

Funny you mention yellow jackets. I have seen almost none this year and generally they are abundant now. I thought it was a local phenomenon but is it more widespread?

The yellow jackets have been around while I've been pressing. I've also seen some strange bees hanging around. They're colored like a yellow jacket, shaped like a honey bee, with red faces and are about 4 times the size of either. I'll try to take a picture.

I got stung very close to the eye last week by something I never did see.
