We got together for a small group dinner and opened some interesting wines.
2010 Doisy Daene sec - the dry wine of this Sauternes house was, unlike some, which show significant botrytis in the nose, a clean dry white Bordeaux with some melony sweetness in the nose, good balance and clean finish. Very pleasant.
1997 Château de Saint-Cosme Gigondas - dark wine with a marked syrah nose with pepper, dark fruit and herbs. Juicy on the mouth and a commendably long finish. Served with duck spring rools.
1989 Sassicaia - this is far from the best vintage of Sassicaia, but this was the best bottle of it I've had. Dark, with an excellent fruit driven cabernet nose, some moccha and sweet entry, and balanced smooth palate presence. Medium long. Went well with the prime rib au jus.
2001 Nederburg Shiraz - another dark one with a riper nose yet, with some cocoa and plum jam. Medium length, decent, went well with the cheese.
