Best Producer in Friuli?

I love Schiopetto, mainly because the wines are more 'true' to the region (pure, minerally, acidic) IMHO. It may just be that the style is similar (or more similar) to my favorite wines from Germany, Austria and Alsace. What do you think?

Much too short, that list of yours... Girolamo Dorigo, Silvio Jermann, Villa Russiz, Josko Gravner, Ronco dei Tassi, Russiz Superiore, Vie di Romans, and of course New York's own Josep Bastianich... I am personally fond of Jermann's wines.

Joining Victor in his concern that the list is way too short, Bill - Gravner and Lis Neris and Due Terre all jump into my mind - I cast a symbolic vote for Felluga just because the whole family ae such darn nice people and they do make a splendid lineup of lines across the board.

First, all respect for the work of Livio Felluga, who more or less is the George Washington of Friuli winemakers. He was there at the beginning, and his wines are still terrific.

But...my vote for top gun these days has to go to Girolamo Dorigo, who makes absolutely stunning Refosco, and who is not above making less-costly wines that are still top quality.

And a sentimental vote for Rosa Bosco, whose wines give new meaning to the term "hand-crafted." I doubt whether any vines anywhere in the world receive as much personal attention from the winemaker as hers do. :D

I like many Friuli producers - I have been a fan of Friuli for more than 30 years, since the heroic times. My list was naturally not all-inclusive; it just had some of the names one should consider, of course. Heck, I even like some wines from the Cormòns co-operative!

I'm a particular fan of Dorigo and also Miani although the wines are hard to come by.

Gotta love Ribolla (at least I do), so it would be hard to pick one out of Jermann, Gravner, Damijan or Dorigo. I suspect that I'd like Radikon also, but I haven't tried one yet.

A Schioppetino / Refosco blend from le Due Terre is one of the great wines stuck in my memory.

Miani not on anybody's list?

I guess Livio Felluga is the most widely distributed, as that is where we have the most experience. Every one we have had was impeccable.

I mentioned them. I haven't seen it for sale in the states though.

Italian Wine Merchants of New York carries some Miani wines (but no whites after 1998...).
