Dow 2011 is Speck's #1; two Douro reds also hit top 10

Not that I've ever been known as a huge fan of Wine Spectator, but it seems that their annual reveal on the Top 100 makes wine news.

Wine Spectator loves Port? Dow 2011 is #1 in top 100, and two Douro reds make top 10.

I think I love it that this forum is so non-Speck-oriented that nobody even opens a thread about the No 1 wine!

Yeah. On the one hand I could care less as it won't change anything I do; but I usually find it amusing to peruse the list anyway. This year I haven't done that yet, but I'm glad for Portugal to get some light--I know these scores DO sell wine.

I have a couple of `02 Vale Meao signed by the winemaker who visited Edmonton a few yrs back. I do not plan on much long term aging right now.

My point exactly!

I know these scores DO sell wine.

If I were in the business, I certainly would not resist their favorable words!

Dow is a fairly regular purchase for me. Thankfully I already have the 2011 in the cellar.

I regard WS as a marketing/lifestyle mag, so surprised that again they chose a Port for WOTY. Haven't they done this several times now? VP is such a niche market.

Second time for Port. The last was 17 years ago, so it's not like a regular thing.
