German Wine Question???

Got a few weeks ago a German wine (NikWeis Wiltingen '13) that was labeled "Deutscher Predikatswein". I assume that's the same as "Qualitatswein mit Pradikat"?? Yet the wine is not labeled as to the level of Pradikatswein (Kabinett/Spatlese/etc).
What gives with this?? Is there a new change in regards to German wine labeling??

There is no obligation to list a pradikat on the bottle, and in fact the pradikat has fallen out of favor for dry/dry-ish wines.

Of course it is all meant to simplify things for the consumer!

Question for David, would a German Estate wine (Gutswein) be considered a Pradikatswein or a QbA? (Does QbA exist under the VDP classification?) By becoming a member of the VDP does this “automatically” make your vineyard “Pradikat” qualified vineyard (or terroir driven vineyard?)
