Decoy and Two Ducks -- Duckhorn ?

by Peter May » Mon Feb 09, 2015 11:23 am

What's the opinion of Duckhorn?

A friend was enthusing last night about two wines she'd been told by an American work colleague were the 'very best' wines from Napa Valley -- Decoy and Two Ducks.

I admitted I'd never herd of them and offered to find out.

A google shows that Decoy is a label of Duckhorn Vineyards and tho' I can't find Two Ducks, it seems that it could be Paraduxx which is another Duckhorn label which shows two ducks on each label and when I attempt my American accent Paraduxx sounds a bit like Pair of Ducks.

Anyway -- Duckhorn seem to make a large range of wines sourced from different areas, so I'd be grateful for the communities wisdom on this.

Solid, but unexceptional wines would be my one liner.

Duckhorn used to be a bit more prestige, but has grown quite large and corporate.

Technically "perfect" but fundamentally boring and characterless Napa Valley red wines.

Expensive.

Why pay $90 for a Duckhorn cabernet when one can have three bottles of a more interesting Cotes du Rhone?

Decoy is their lesser second label. Maybe one step up from supermarket wine. Maybe. :(

I will say that I have had several of their Goldeneye Pinot Noirs that I liked very much.
