Pinot Precoce/Fruhburgunder???

Interesting article on Pinot Precoce:

Most commonly known in Germany as Fruhburgunder, also known as Pinot Madeline.

Never heard of this grape before. Apparently can't tell the wine from standard PinotNoir by tasting it. Sounds like something they should try in BritishColumbia or Ontario or Michigan or NewYorkState.

Fruhburgunder tastes nothing like Pinot Noir. I have tried several different German renditions, and it is a pale imitation of Spatburgunder/Pinot Noir.

I would love to see a treatise on where various grape varieties should be planted, according to you, Tom. You would, of course, have to elaborate, in greater detail, the reasons for you choices, especially since you're a rocket scientist.

I visited a newish vineyard in Wales in 2012 that was growing both Pinot Precoce and Noir, the original shiiping info for the nursery in German was stapled to the posts and here's a pic of the Precoce one, also a view of the vineyard.

I've not tasted a 100% Precoce as far as I know, but having tasted different 100% clones of Noirs I am not convinced that it tastes nothing like PN as it is PN, just a different clone and there are big differences between some different PN clones
