Years ago, I bought three bottles of what was then supposedly BC's best red wine. It was certainly the hardest to get--highly allocated, sold out fast. Here's my overall poor experience with those three bottles:
2004 Black Hills 'Nota Bene'
11/16/2015: Not decanted. Initially, nose was odd but it tasted okay, good even, though not like a 46% cabernet Bordeaux style blend. Overtly acidic, too. In a short amount of time, though, the palate caught up with the nose and it reminded me of this horrible Eastern European plum brandy called slibovitz that my father used to love with a little rat poison thrown in. We dumped it. When to drink? Never.
7/4/2015: A good bottle proving that the dried up bottle one year ago was a fluke. Tangy, savory, with emphasis on the cab franc component. Good finish--a pleasure.
7/2/2014: Pale garnet color, fully mature, tires quickly in the glass. My first of three bottles, and from what I see in other people's notes it looks like I missed the boat here.
