WTN: 2014 Idlewild Barbera - Wow!

by David M. Bueker » Wed Dec 30, 2015 12:28 pm

2014 Idlewild Barbera Fox Hill Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (12/29/2015)
First sip: wow!

Second sip: still wow!

Repeat as needed.

This was a wonderful, pure, unadorned rendition of a grape that too often gets destroyed by new oak in the hands of other producers. Black raspberry and other fruit tones were weaving in and out with warm herbs and a subtle earthy note. Four of us were drinking this, and everyone kept reaching for the bottle. It was gone in a flash, so I did not get to follow the wine for long. It was flat out delicious though.
