WTN: Pepière "Quatre"

Domaine de la Pepière 2010 Muscadet Sèvre et Main "Quatre."

This is apparently a Muscadet that saw four years (!) on the lees before bottling? Certainly a little richer than the basic Pepière, though not creamy; intensely concentrated saline/mineral, lemon, and fruit-skin notes, pretty sharply citric around the edges but smoothed out in the center, with a long and well-defined finish. I can't decide whether I think the softened center here represents a lack or a virtue, but certainly this is a compelling wine overall.
cheers, Patchen

Thanks Patchen. I had wondered what that cuvee was. Sounds more like my kind of Muscadet.

Yeah, I think that's right, David. Since I recently learned you're not a Sauvignon Blanc fan -- and since we chose this over a Salvard Cheverny that was beside it in the fridge -- I'd say that it definitely leaned more toward, say, Chablis than toward Loire Sauvignons (not that those are the criteria by which to judge Muscadet, but you know what I mean).

Good to see you around here, Patchen. Thanks for letting me know about a new cuvé, sounds delicious like all Pepiere.
