1. Prunotto Mompertone DOC: Monferrato (13.5%; 60% Barbera/40% Syrah) Alba 2010: Very dark color; very strong Barbera/spicy/Italian sausage/very spicy slight earthy/loamy slight licorice/blackberry very attractive nose; quite tart/acid very strong Barbera/Italian sausage/Italian dried herbs rich/lush bit blackberry/licorice flavor w/ some hard/angular tannins; very long quite spicy/Barbera/Italian dried herbs light earthy bit blackberry/licorice/Syrah finish w/ some hard tannins; could use another 2-6 yrs. $29.50 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. I'd never heard of a Barbera/Syrah blend from Piemonte before. I expected the Syrah to come thru loud&clear. I did not. The wine was distinctly Barbera w/ the Syrah only lurking in the background. The wine spoke loudly of Barbera w/ the Syrah giving it a roundness & lushness w/o being obnoxiously obtrusive & taking the hard edges off the Barbera.
