WTN: Hirsch Riesling Zobing Kamptal '13...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Sep 12, 2016 10:15 am

Preparing to leave for Austria in a week, I cracked last night:
1. Hirsch Riesling Zobing DAC: Kamptal (trocken; 12.0%; http://www.Weingut-Hirsch.At; TerryTheiseSlctn) Kammern/Langenlois 2013: Light gold color; quite fragrant R/floral/mango some pungent/valve oil/gout de petrol spicy/chalky/mineral lovely aromatic nose; quite tart/tangy/bracing strong floral/R/mango/pineapple light valve oil/petrol clean/crisp/chalky/metallic/mineral classic R flavor; very long tart/tangy/mineral/metallic strong R/floral/mango light petrol/valve oil finish; a lovely crisp/bracing/tangy richly flavored Austrian R that needs another 5-10 yrs; great price at $22.32 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Hirsch farm their grapes bio-dynamically. I was quite taken by this wine. Strong expression of gout de petrol in the nose, not so much on the palate.

I had a great visit to Hirsch several years ago, and hope you can make it there in your upcoming visit. Great wines and great people, and the view from their tasting room is outstanding!
