WTN - 2000 Quinta do Crasto

On the nose there is bacon, alcohol, coffee, pine needles, hazlenut, smoke, and some prune/plum fruit and a bit of cassis. 14% alcohol and decanted for 2-4 hours.

Tastes highlight dark fruit (blackberry) with limited mid palate and a bitterness on the finish. Had with roast beef, potatoes, and carrots. This wine did not change with dinner so I threw some different cheeses at it. The wine did not like either the Old Amsterdam aged Gouda or the Crucolo. However it did like the Vella Dry Jack. The wine filled out much better in the mid palate and the finish also improved.

Overall a fairly good wine with the finish improving some with more decanting time. I have tasted this wine on two other occasions (over the last 3 years) with the first being the best experience. This bottle seems to be past its prime but I will probably not find out as it was my last bottle.

I have one more bottle of this wine in my cellar (one that you bought for me). If you are curious I can bring it for our next Noland Brothers tasting, whenever that might be. You were talking about the 2000 Duoro reserva, correct?

Yes it was the Duoro Reserva. Rated 92 by spectator as I recall and about $23 at release.

Anyone have an interest in doing a Duoro Open Mike?? Warm weather might not be too conducive eh.

Here is another one to look out for, the `02 Quinta da Urze, Tinta Roriz. Comes from the Carm outfit.

Another vote for the '04 Reserva Old Vines. I tried a bottle last month and went back to the store last night and loaded up my cart.
