2011 Eagles Trace Latitude 38....The intent here was to produce a Napa red wine with a Bordeaux style blend by Gus Anderson and he did just that. With 53% CS, Merlot of 29% and CF of 18%, this was a much leaner red than one usually expects from Napa even in an off year. Right from the start, the nose shows mostly pipe tobacco and dusty plum. The palate is more about plum and a raw beef gameyness that fades quickly into more dusty herbal greenness but not vegetal, maybe from stems. That dusty/herbal/tobacco nose is quite alluring . Tannins are mostly resolved and this wine could easily improve to 2022 or more. Glad I have quite a bit more but in no hurry. abv of 12.8%, exceptionally low for most red wines in my cellar.
