2002 Domaine Denis Bachelet Côte de Nuits Villages - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages (1/19/2017)
I tasted this over two nights, as on night one it took quite a while to open up. Given the producer there were of course very high hopes, tempered by the humble appellation. Overall I would say it met expectations, with some earthy, leafy nuances to accompany still present, but starting to evaporate fruit. The final impression was of a rather austere wine. Good, but not worth what the wine costs in current vintages.

I love BAchelet but the Gevrey is now priced more than the Charmes used to be.
The CdNV was $20, then $25, by '06 $30. I think I stopped in '08.

I bought the '06 during a Zachys sale for $25. That was the last for me. I have grabbed a bottle or two of Bachelet here and there since, but no quantities.

My love of Burgundy started one night in D.C. when Maureen opened a Bachelet and a Truchot for me. Goodbye wallet!

I have experienced many red Burgundies from 2002 (Villages wines and some average 1er Crus) in a similar way. I liked their robustness, lightness and freshness. However, drinking these wines makes you feel you have sugar-fee diet fruit on your palate
This, of course, does not apply to the very best Burgs produced in 2002 (e.g. Armand Rousseau, Domaine Leroy, Roumier, ..).
