I finished up a bottle of very good cheap Portuguese red wine with my spaghetti tonight. It's called Tapada Do Barao (with a tilde over the second A) which would make it something like Baran with the tilde in the same place) in Spanish, but not quite, if you're in Portugal. It's different in the Azores and Brazil, however.
The label says, " 'Vinho Regional Alentejano' Red Wine 2009", and "Produced and bottled by Granacer, S.A. at Monte Dos Perdigoes - Portugal" (with a tilde over the 0 in Perdigoes).
Cost me $9.69 at the Bottle Barn. I've paid in the $30s for worse wine.
It's a medium bodied red, with flavors reminiscent of Zin (but not as berry-like), tempranillo and malbec, only lighter than malbec, especially. Good with spaghetti and skillet chicken. Would be fine with steak or stew or burgers or whatever.
I'm posting because I want it to stick in what only vaguely resembles what I used to call my memory.
