NV Pierre Péters Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuvée de Réserve - France, Champagne (4/29/2017)
From a magnum disgorged in December 2010 (2006 vintage base per Rodolphe Péters)
I have been drinking a lot of Pinot Meunier Champagnes lately, so this Blanc de Blancs was a bit of a shock when it hit my palate. But it was all good, as bright, precise and fresh citrus and apple elements signaled an excellent, still very youthful magnum of pretty much the most reliable grower wine I know. Once past the initial rush of fruit there was a little bit of toastiness showing, and the back end depth of the wine displayed the richness of the base vintage. Additional air, and warming up from refrigerator temperature, added more complexity with floral and mineral character. It was a fabulous accompaniment to our crab cakes, as well as our after dinner popcorn!
