WTN: More Bottom Feeding at TJ's...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu May 11, 2017 2:20 pm

Sara brought this as a mystery wine last night:
1. LazyBones CabFranc PasoRobles (13.9%) C&B by CentralCoastWineWarehouse/SantaMaria 2015: Very dark color; very strong plummy/PR jammy/ripe/licorice/blackcurranty Cab/light herbal/CabFranc light toasty/oak rather attractive nose; soft ripe/plummy/some PR jammy/blackcurranty/bit herbal CabFranc/chocolaty light toasty/oak w/ light soft/ripe tannins; long ripe/plummy/PR jammy/blackcurranty Cab/bit herbal CabFranc soft/rich/lush light toasty/oak finish w/ light ripe tannins; speaks strongly of PasoRobles and quietly of CabFranc; quite a nice/tasty red at a very good price. $7.00 (TJ)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Sara brought this as a mystery wine last night. Nobody was able to guess what it was. I thought PasoRobles but couldn't get the variety. When she revealed it as a TJ's $7 bargain wine, I was quite surprised. I'd not noticed it on my last foray of bottom-feeding at TJ's...but then I seldom shop the Cab section. Then when I looked at the label, I understood why it was so good...CentralCoastWineWarehouse in SantaMaria. AKA CentralCoastWineServices...a custom crush facility. Owned by the Millers/BienNacidoVnyd. Winemaker is ClayBrock. They made several white Rhone blends that were mighty good...including the ComiqueRevolution. So...anytime you see a TJ's cheepo and it says CentralCoastWineWarehouse...you should jump on it.

Tom, with your permission I'm going to post this TN on the facebook webpage for the local tastings I do. They love a good TJ's bargain, and I'm poor at seeking them out myself. Will give you due credit!

Of course you can post it, Jenise. No need to give me credit...nobody would recognize the name.

Of course they wouldn't. But I was presenting a tasting note for a wine I hadn't tasted, so someone had to get the credit! :)

I won't buy more than the one bottle as I have too much wine anyway, but as a public service it's cool to find great deals for people who enjoy wine but need to live on a tighter budget.

What I especially enjoyed about this is that while it has the big, solid and varietally correct fruit, it lacks the RS and bug spray qualities of so many Paso wines (which I generally detest). For the area, it's almost restrained.

Gasp, Jenise....I thought I was the only one w/ that problem.

I won't buy any of it for myself, but I've been recommending it to a bunch of people.
And will buy a few btls for Susan...who prefers to drink much cheaper during the week on her own.

Nope! Problem is, buying wine is as fun as drinking it. Wish I liked one or the other a little less....
