WTN: That's some fine herb!

by David M. Bueker » Sun May 14, 2017 1:31 pm

Got upgraded to business class, and they were pouring the 2015 Selbach-Oster Riesling Kabinett Feinherb. It was a good choice due to the lightness, but also the elevated richness of 2015 which helped overcome the palate deadening effects of pressurized aircraft. Peach, apple and citrus all danced around in a frame that felt just a touch big for Kabinett, but was deftly balanced by its acidity. Johannes Selbach has been making outstanding Feinherb wines the last several years. They are magnificent with food, and delicious on their own. This is another example.

Why don't I ever get upgraded on planes? (My parents and their friends were upgraded to first class on a SAS overseas flight which was nice for them.) I did get upgraded once to preferred seating or some such so that a couple could have seats together.

My upgrades are due to spending 1/2 of last year on business travel.

On my flight back from Boston yesterday I did get moved to an empty two-seater row so that a mother with four-month old infant and lots of baby paraphernalia could spread out a bit. It was a full plane so that was nice for both of us.
