Tried this last night:
1. Massican Sauvignon NapaVlly (100% SauvignonBlanc; 13.8%) Calistoga 2016: Med.light gold color; very strong SB/grapefruity/lemony/bit floral (Musque?) quite stony/mineral/perfumed talc bit earthy rather terroir-driven bit austere nose; quite tart/lean/austere rather stony/mineral/flinty/steely somewhat SB/grapefruity/lemony bit earthy/tangy flavor; very long/lingering tart/tangy/steely/earthy/mineral rather grapefruity/lemony/SB/perfumed talc savory/saline finish; definitely atypical of Calif SB or NZ SB; much like a Friuli or AltoAdige SB, some like a Steiermark SB more than anything; lots of acid/tangy character w/o seeming green or eviscerated; a really tasty/food-friendly SB. $30.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. As a rule, I'm not much of a fan of Calif SB. My favorite is usually the DryCreekVnyd Sauv Musque. With my oven toasted Rubusto cheese slathered w/ Bacon Jam, this one just really hit the spot last night. In fact, wound up draining the btl. Hate it when that happens.
Massican is, of course, the label of DanPetroski, winemaker at Larkmead. His focus is on making white wines in a Friulian style, at which he excels.
